United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

The mission of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and UNEP

UNEP is interested in links between SSE and local economic development, public policy and law, environmental protection, food security/agricultural development and sustainable cities. UNEP is aiming to develop a guidance manual on inclusiveness and poverty alleviation through green economy; a global report documenting best policy practices for greening the economy while also reducing inequality/poverty; as well as to organize regular events for sharing and cross fertilizing cutting edge thinking, research and policy experiences in this domain.

Relevant publications include:

  • Green Economy and Employment brief for Post 2015 agenda
  • Green Economy and MDGs report
  • Green Economy and Poverty brief for Post 2015 agenda
