The UN Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (TFSSE) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a side event at the next Committee on World Food Security. It will take place on Friday 17 October, 6:30 pm – 8:00 p.m., Lebanon Room (D-209), FAO, Rome. The topic of the side event is Social and Solidarity Economy for Improved Food Security and Nutrition.
Around the world, millions of rural workers and producers are organizing in self-help groups, cooperatives and other forms of social enterprise in ways that bode well for food security and smallholder empowerment. By coming together as a group, farmers can often increase their bargaining power and negotiate better prices. They develop capacities and realize rights in ways that go hand in hand with measures that promote agro-ecology preserving plant and animal biodiversity, and guarantee social equity and economic viability.
